Experimenting with text based images

This is the first time I've used Adobe Illustrator and I love it.  I was dreading this project when it was first assigned but I fell in love with it, I'm really impressed with the things I made, especially for my first time.  There's a good chance I will make more of these in the future!

Helvetica

So we watched a bit of a film called Helvetica.  (I will now use the Helvetica font) To be honest, I didn't even know Helvetica was a font.  I always associated "Times New Roman" as the basic font.  I never really thought about the amount of effort and creativity it required to make fonts...but I guess it is necessary.  Fonting seems a little too mathematical and perfect for me, so i'll stay away from that career path.

The Internet and Art

This week, I've heard a lot about art in the media and using other people's work without giving them credit. This is a topic that I have not thought about much, but it does affect me and many people. Since I am an artist, the artwork I post onto the internet can be seen by anyone and anywhere, and because of this it could be used for personal gain without my consent. Since fine art is such an under appreciated form of work in today's culture it is becoming an unsubstantial form of income due to many things including the internet. But artistic ability is a talent that should be cherished, not mass produced. In other words, artists need all the appreciation and credit they can get and using their work without their consent is unacceptable.

(it's extremely ironic, but I used the above image without consent...)
